May 2009 – Faber’s Cyclery is a historic bike shop located downtown San Jose in the “Columbus Building” which was built in the late 1800′s and originally housed a saloon. Jake Faber lunched his bike shop in 1919 and relocated to the current location in 1921 when the saloon closed due to prohibition. Alex LaRiviere took over in 1973 and has been the owner ever since and seeks to restore and maintain the shop so it may be used as a museum for future generations to enjoy.

I spent more than 10 days at Faber’s – spread out over the course of 5 weeks – shooting the shop and interviewing Alex. He has a great passion and vision for this place and if he’s able to pull off what he hopes to, it will be something truly special.
