UPDATE, MAY 2010: Based on comments from the Bike Magazine, this production is the most-watched video in Bike Magazine’s history by over 45%. I am thrilled that this piece has created such a stir and offer a huge congratulations to Keith DeFiebre. He is a great guy and spent a lot of time with me, graciously answering all of my questions.

This event was a blast. If you are a bike enthusiast you have to make it a priority to attend or race at least once in your life, no matter where in the world you live. The event boasts 47,000 spectators and approximately 8,500 riders over the 4-day event and hosts competitive events in every major genre of cycling including downhill, cross-country, dual slalom (as seen here), road bike, stunt and BMX to name a few.

This multimedia piece features Keith DeFiebre, dual slalom course designer at the Sea Otter Classic for 20 years. Keith has designed courses all over the North America including Whistler, B.C, Idaho, Montana and the Sierra Nevadas, but the Sea Otter remains special to him as it hosted in his home town and he has been a part of the festival since its inception. Click the photo to watch.

May 2009 – Faber’s Cyclery is a historic bike shop located downtown San Jose in the “Columbus Building” which was built in the late 1800′s and originally housed a saloon. Jake Faber lunched his bike shop in 1919 and relocated to the current location in 1921 when the saloon closed due to prohibition. Alex LaRiviere took over in 1973 and has been the owner ever since and seeks to restore and maintain the shop so it may be used as a museum for future generations to enjoy.

I spent more than 10 days at Faber’s – spread out over the course of 5 weeks – shooting the shop and interviewing Alex. He has a great passion and vision for this place and if he’s able to pull off what he hopes to, it will be something truly special.

As part of a feature that the Spartan Daily published about its beloved student radio station KSJS, I produced this brief multimedia piece about the station’s longest running on-air personality, Dennis Teary. Since 1976 Teary has been hosting the Friday oldies show “Friday Flashbacks” but completely by touch – Teary is blind. After spending a few hours with him in the studio during one of his show I can tell you he has no trouble navigating the dials and joyfully conducts his show without a hitch.

During a tour of the facilities earlier in the week, a fellow DJ commented to me that “I mess up all the time and I can see. [Teary] doesn’t skip a beat…he flawlessly navigates the board.”
